Question 1

Is The Ridge House dog-friendly?

Accepted Answer

"Most places that take dogs feel like a trade-off. This one doesn't." Ana, August 2026Genuinely and warmly, yes. Up to two dogs are welcome, with a pet fee of $50 per dog per stay. A couple of things worth knowing before you arrive: the property has no secure perimeter fencing, so dogs should be kept on leash on the trails to keep them safe in the bush.

Fifty acres of private bushland, two walking trails through tall ash gums and fern gullies, and open grassland mean there is plenty to explore together. If you've been searching for dog-friendly luxury accommodation in Victoria that doesn't ask you to compromise on quality just because you're bringing your dog, The Ridge House is it. Question 2

Can I book direct?

Accepted Answer

The simplest way to book is directly through the website at theridgehouse.com.au. Booking direct means you're dealing with Kristy personally, not a platform, not an algorithm. It gives us the chance to have a proper conversation about your stay, answer any questions before you arrive, and make sure everything is exactly right. There are no third-party platform fees built into the rate, and the booking relationship is between us from start to finish. If you have questions before you commit (dates, the property, a group booking, or a mid-week package) get in touch through the contact page. Kristy loves hearing from guests before they arrive.

Question 3

Do I have to book all four bedrooms?

Accepted Answer

No. You pay for the guests who stay, not for the bedrooms. Couples make up a large share of who stays here, particularly midweek, and the nightly rate is based on two guests. Additional guests are $80 per person, per night, up to eight in total. Tell us how many bedrooms you'd like made up and we'll prepare those and close the rest for your stay. Three friends might want a room each. A family of three might prefer two. Either is fine. Everything else is yours regardless: both wood fires, the kitchen, the deck, the two walking trails and all 50 private acres, with nobody else on the property. See full rates and policies.

Question 4

Do you host weddings at The Ridge House?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The Ridge House hosts micro weddings, elopements, and wedding preparation stays on 50 private acres in Gippsland, 90 minutes from Melbourne and 20 minutes from Warragul. Up to 20 guests on site, four bedrooms sleeping eight overnight, the whole property exclusively yours, and your dog welcome at the ceremony. There are no locked-in vendor lists and no venue clock. Kristy quotes personally for all wedding enquiries. Find out more about hosting your micro wedding or elopement at The Ridge House.

Question 5

How far is The Ridge House from Melbourne?

Accepted Answer

Ninety minutes. Leave after work on Friday and you're on the deck watching the valley turn pink before the sun goes down. The Ridge House is in Yarragon South, West Gippsland. Straight down the Princes Highway, no mountain passes, no winding back roads. It's close enough to do on a whim, far enough to feel genuinely away. For a weekend getaway from Melbourne, 90 minutes is the sweet spot: you arrive with the week still on your shoulders and leave two days later feeling like yourself again.

Question 6

What's included when we arrive?

Accepted Answer

Rather a lot, by design. Breakfast provisions to get your first morning started: Gippsland Jersey milk and butter, local sourdough, homemade jam, honey from our hives at Green Hills Farm next door, and fresh eggs. Two indoor wood fires, prepped and ready to light on arrival, with a full stack of firewood and kindling supplied. Plunger coffee, Nespresso pods, tea, hot chocolate and marshmallows. A fully equipped kitchen with a cast-iron dutch oven, cake pans, mixing bowls, and ample glassware. A picnic basket and rug for days out. Board games, giant Jenga, quoits, and an outdoor gas Weber BBQ. There's also a TV in the small lounge off the kitchen if anyone wants it, though most evenings the fire and board games win out. There's also a small pantry of local wines, jams, and condiments available to purchase during your stay, take home, or both.

Question 7

Is there wifi? Can I work remotely from The Ridge House?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The property runs on NBN 100 (Home Fast tier), fast enough for video calls, streaming, file uploads, and a full remote working day without a hitch. There's no dedicated desk setup, but guests work from the kitchen table overlooking the valley, and it turns out to be one of the better places to think you'll find 90 minutes from Melbourne. Kristy uses the space herself when she needs room to write or work through ideas. Something about the light, the view, and the quiet does something useful to your thinking. Good creative work has come out of that table. Yours might too. See Kristy getting her creativity on at The Ridge House kitchen table.

Question 8

Can I read guest reviews of The Ridge House?

Accepted Answer

Yes, and it's worth a look before you book. The Ridge House has more than 300 five-star reviews since 2019, from families and couples to girls' weekends away, remote workers and workationers, to guests travelling with their dogs, and all of them seem to take a little piece of The Ridge House home with them. Returning guests are the strongest evidence of all: the next trip is often booked before people have even left. Read more guest reviews on our home page.
